Sorry its been a while. Plenty going on at the moment.

OK command squads. On thing I want to revive is the idea of attached characters, but this will only be for the top tier characters and with the third tier characters, e.g. a Chapter Master taking a Techmarine/Apothecary etc.

However I would like command squads to be one of two things - either a kick arse comabt unit (shooting or combat), leaning towards the idea that modern comms and planning has no need for adjutants etc. Or we have that slightly regressed feel and the squad is filled with minor specialists (who coub get detached).

Any thoughts?

I've often toyed with bringing in characters through command squad. After all, the background has indicated that Chaplains, Apothecaries, Techmarines, and Librarians are attached to the Command Squad when seconded to a Company.

Perhaps purchasing the unit in the same fashion as the Court of the Archon would work? Then redistributing them like old warlocks and old wolf guard?

I like the idea of granting a static bonus with the squad too. I would like it to serve another purpose beyond bringing the company banner and an extra meltagun. How about wound allocation for the attached character, like an Inquisitor's retinue?

See I was thinking about this, and questioning whether a Space Marine Commander would need a squad consisting of Specialists, or whether he would want a bodyguard/terror unit for when he commited himself to the attack.

In this latter case you could have any squad in the army being able to upgrade their unit leader to any of: Adept Novice, Reclusiarch Novice, Apothecarium Novice, Lexicanium or Vet Sgt, with one Vet Sgt in the army coming with the company banner, if chosen.

Then your commander could just have a unit of kick arse marines
